Basketball Unit – Lesson 2 Grade: 8 Subject: Physical Education Facility: Gymnasium Materials: Basketballs (15) Cones (6) Standards: 8.2.1 Understand biomechanical concepts that govern different types of movement. 8.2.2 Understand the relationship between cue words and movement skills.
After teaching the ball handling drills during the first lesson, we begin the following lessons of our unit by doing a quick warmup for about 3-4 minutes of Follow the Leader and ask students to work on keeping their eyes up and trying to copy the ball handling moves that the teacher is doing without looking at the ball.
PE UNITS. In the Fall... Frisbee: Basics of throwing and catching as well as ultimate frisbee and, weather permitting, frisbee golf. Whiffle Ball: We begin with basic instruction on, literally, how to use a bat to hit a ball. We then move in to 2 on 2 whiffle ball games with just two bases, one out per team, and no strike outs.
Basketball. Objective: Students will understand and be able to demonstrate the rules and skills needed for an organized basketball game. The skills will include: dribbling, shooting, passing, lay-ups, and game play. Assessment: Peer skill rubric and a written quiz.
